GENERAL Info
The project is one of my biggest and longest tasks at Trafficon. It involved a complete redesign of the existing but no longer active product. A brief included both mobile and web versions. Since I can not share my end results, I would illustrate my process with similar files.
Instead of presenting actual product I could describe my thinking, challenges and takeaways. When the project goes online, I will share a link. Also, I could provide the employer’s reference on request.
My role
As UI/UX designer, I was responsible for the look and feel of the product. I worked on multiple b2b projects, mainly revolving around mobility and traffic. My tasks involved defining design problem statements, doing user research, and ideating design solutions. I also collaborated with developers and marketers. Besides my main responsibilities, I worked on branding, calendar design and updating icon sets.
Research & Design
Step #1: Discover
Understanding the functionality behind the project: reviewed the existing resources about the project to expand my knowledge for the redesign.
Conducting a competitor analysis: comparing solutions across similar platforms to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
User problem: understanding what’s working and what’s not.
Practical research: quantitative data was not available, I worked mostly with qualitative data. I collected verbatim from users dealing with a similar problem.
Step #2: Define
Defining the future work: finalising list of features for redesign, prioritise functions, product requirement. This stage was concluded in collaboration with a product manager.
Step #3: Design
Create the solution prototype: explore concepts and ideas in practice, drafting sketches & wireframes. Test and iterate to improve the prototype.
Step #4 Deliver
Deliver the final product and get feedback from stakeholders to improve the product in the future.
Challenges
- A vast project with limited time
- Remote work with a team
- Rapid development environment
- Being a solo designer on the start of the project
Takeaways
- Every 1 hour saved on research would cost 2-3 hours in a design stage
- Importance of the rigid work structure
- Open communication with a client.
