My role
As UI/UX designer, I was responsible for the look and feel of the product. As part of Trafficon, I worked on multiple b2b projects, mainly revolving around mobility and traffic. My tasks involved defining design problem statements, doing user research, and ideating design solutions. I also collaborated with developers and marketers. Besides my main responsibilities, I worked on branding, calendar design and updating icon sets.
Design process
- 🔎 Discover
- ✏️ Define
- 💡 Ideate
- 🔨 Prototype
- 🙋♂️ Test
Understanding the functionality behind the product: reviewing the existing resources about the project to expand my knowledge for the redesign.
Audit: discovering what’s working and what’s not.
Competitor analysis: comparing solutions across similar platforms to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
Practical research: quantitative data was not available, I worked mostly with qualitative data. I collected verbatim from users dealing with a similar problem.
As a ... driver, I need a navigation service so that I could get around the city.
Navigation in a city is challenging for ... drivers because of various weight, size and height limitations.
Create the solution prototype: explore concepts and ideas in practice, drafting sketches & wireframes. Test and iterate to improve the prototype.
Deliver screen design product and get feedback from manager and stakeholders. It would later use to improve a product in the future.
Challenges
- A vast project with limited time
- Remote work with a team
- Rapid development environment
- Being a solo designer on the start of the project
Takeaways
- Importance of the rigid work structure
- Clear communication with a client
- Every 1 hour saved on research would cost 2-3 hours in a design stage
